Flora Danica at Utstein

The plants and the dinner service

Exhibition: Flora Danica and Utstein

Flora Danica is a 54-volume encyclopaedic work containing illustrations and descriptions of plant species from Denmark and Norway, published in Copenhagen from 1761 to 1883.

Four plants from Utstein were included in Flora Danica.

‘Flora Danica’ is also the name of a porcelain dinner service commissioned by the Danish king. It is decorated with hand-painted illustrations of the plants in the encyclopaedia and is embellished with real gold. The four plants from Utstein are also illustrated at the world famous dinner service.
